stocktake [oct20]

I’m again ripping the bandaid off and posting a simple stocktake of where I’m at right now.

Its been a weird month, and one in which I’ve been doing some soul-searching about the direction that this particular site should take – and even whether or not Continue reading “stocktake [oct20]”

irons in the fire

I feel like I have a million irons in the fire right now – and I’m going to need to be super-diligent of how I schedule my Life and time over the next couple of weeks, otherwise I know that I am going to seriously deplete my already low energy reserves, and end up being a gibbering, anxiety-ridden mess – who cant get anything accomplished! gettin’ stuff done!

I’ve been back to the house in town today, and have done some mega cleaning.

All the floors have been vacuumed, and some of them mopped.
The kitchen sink is sparkling like new and all the kitchen benches and the breakfast bar have been cleared and cleaned.

I have tidied up the front room / office, staged some furniture, pruned the houseplant and vacuumed up all the spider-webs.

I pulled all the furniture away from the walls on the patio, swept down all the walls, and vacuumed up all the spiders and their associated webs, then swept the patio tiles, mopped up some marks, wiped down the tables, and repositioned the furniture.
I even managed to get all the stairs and pathway swept, and the houseplant out there also got a bit of a haircut in the midst of it all.

The main bedroom is closed off so that the cats can’t get in, and there are only two bits of stripping that need completion in the spare bedroom, and then some touchup paintwork on those bits.
The 2nd bedroom is fine how it is.

Once our youngest daughters wedding is done & dusted, and all the various family members have gone back to their different corners of the country, I will empty the kitchen cupboards and drawers, and the pantry – but the kids will be staying in the house from this Wednesday onward, until Sunday or Monday – so it won’t be until next week that I can get to that.

The big bathroom has had the the last of the stripping and gapping done, and there are just a few paint touch-ups needed in there too, but the smaller bathroom just needs a wipe over and the shower recess needs a final scrub, but I’ll wait for next week to do that bit – cos the visiting kids are bound to make a mess!

I’m now back at the Farm, and have a pile of laundry to get through, as I didn’t do any washing over the weekend.

I’m hoping to get to whipper-snipping around the raised beds out near where we park the cars done while the washing-machine is doing its thing – but right now I’m waiting for a phone call that I don’t want to miss – and phone reception is a bit hit & miss at the best of times, but gets markedly worse the further you move away from the FarmHouse where the booster-box for the mobile signal is, so for now i’ll just hang around inside and get some chores done in here…

The whole Farm was mowed again over the weekend.
My Darling doesn’t find it quite as funny as I do, but the ‘clean green slate’ only lasts about 2 hours before the yellow woodsorrel (oxalis stricta) that is in plague proportions amongst the grass, throws up a whole pile of new flowers – so the entire paddock is just a sea of glorious little golden flowers.

It really is very pretty, but drives My Love demented, as by the next morning its back to looking unmown. lol
I can’t help but laugh – every.single.time!! 😀

Go slow and enjoy the day Folks,

Today is different.

Today I got out of bed quite well rested.
I had a really decent sleep last night, because it rained through the night, and i always sleep soooo much better when it rains.

I have also taken a fortnight off work – which actually winds up being 18 days – so that is a big load of stress gone off my back for the time being!!

And to top it off, I also slept well because My Love & I came to a very important decision last night, Continue reading “today…”

a quickie

After yesterdays mammoth post, I thought today would just be a ‘quickie’ 🙂

Sometimes – just cleaning up and sorting out a small corner of your home, can make a huge difference to how you feel about the rest of the day.

I had had one of those mornings where I came back to the Farm feeling pretty crappy, frustrated and annoyed. Continue reading “a quickie”

In case I haven’t mentioned it before – I am a big fan of de-cluttering.

Clutter makes me restless – even when I don’t consciously realize it – and its amazing how quickly I settle, and can make more sense of my Life, home and mind, when there isn’t a whole pile of clutter around.

Sometimes that clutter is just general untidiness about the Home, stuff lying around, mess where there shouldn’t be mess, or even a pile of dishes waiting to be washed, or laundry to be put away.

But sometimes there is clutter in my general Life – that just needs to be sorted through.
And then sometimes theres mind clutter.
And sometimes…..that clutter might even be a person or various people!

Clutter isn’t necessarily always a physical visible thing…

I’m not always good at working out that clutter of one sort or another is what is making my mood ‘prickly’, but I have learnt some tools along the way, that work for me – that helps in the battle to keep my Life less cluttered – and me less ‘prickly’! lol

Firstly – I have a folder that I have organised around all the things that need to be done around our Home on a daily / weekly / monthly / etc basis – and this greatly helps me with keeping on task and on track, and not letting the jobs we almost never think about – slip between the cracks…
(surely I can’t be the only one who never remembers that baseboards need wiping over every few months?)

It also helps me to not get overwhelmed, because even when I slip up – which I inevitably do a few times a year – I know that within a few hours of getting back into my system of routine, our Home will be visibly nicer, and I will be infinitely calmer!

Next: Whilst I always keep track of any appointments etc that either of us have, via our shared calendar on my phone; I also have a week-to-a-view desk diary, that mostly stays right next to wherever my laptop is parked, so that I see it and can see and refer to it regularly.

This is not only an easy-to-see visual reminder of what my week looks like, but its also a record of the week-that-was.
I also use it to keep track of what meals we’ve had throughout the week; and to document which bills been paid, including how, and how much.

Nooooo – I’m not a control freak, and I’m definitely not a neat-freak – I just know myself well enough to know that a bit of order in my day, flows out into other parts of Life – and helps me accomplish what I’d like to get done…

What sort of things do you do to keep on track?
And is my style of organisation something you’re interested in hearing more about?

Talk to me – in the space below – and let me know!! :))

Until next time, look after YOU!
And remember – sharing is caring!

This is a part of my organizational system with my week-to-a-view diary, our shared digital calendar (which I also have on my phone), my book of extra ‘stuff’ that I want to get done, or remember, and that I use to meal-plan for the week etc; and a couple of example pages out of the folder that I use to keep me on track with what needs doing around the house.
(I didn’t include any of the pages that has the detailed room cleaning, like the baseboards lol)

Sharing is Caring!

What to do?!?!

Soooo – next weekend, I get to have a few days to myself — sooo, what to de eh!!??!!

Our grandson turns 3 next week, and there is going to be a party held in his honour.
But…I’m not going.

We’ve decided that my Wife will go on her own, and I’ll hold down the fort here.

Plus, it’s just not my kind of scene…
a) it’s out of town
b) we have to fly and drive to get there
c) I don’t happen to believe in having a big ‘piss-up‘ party, for a three year old.

But we do need to make an appearance of some sort – so the Mrs gets to do the honours this time round.

So this week I get to plan out how I’d like to spend the time flying solo, and I’ve decided I’m going to make it some good ole fashioned ME time!!!
(we’ll see how it all pans out I guess lol)

What I’d like to do:
– get rid of the ciggies in my system
– get 2 of my tattoos touched up
– have a bath
– do some gardening
– catalogue some books
– clean out the cars
– watch some junk television
– maybe even hang some art

Sometime next week, I’ll try remember to check in and we’ll see just what I did end up doing…
Probably nothing on the list!! 😐
